The 2 Drink Health Check

Had a long day? Good. That's when you answer these straight. Tap yeah or nah, takes a minute. Nobody sees this but you. Your answers stay on this page and never leave your browser. When you're done, it'll tell you where you're at.

  1. You make less per hour now than when you worked for someone else?

  2. You're the last one to get paid, assuming there's anything left?

  3. You know what came in and went out, but you have no real idea where the money actually went this month?

  4. On the phone to the ATO on the last day getting grilled about updating your payment plan again?

  5. One bad week (weather, an injury, a sick kid, materials not turning up) and you're into the overdraft, credit card or just not paying yourself that week again?

  6. Too busy working in the business to ever work on it?

  7. The week just happens to you?

  8. If you couldn't work tomorrow, the money stops?

  9. Be straight: the biggest hold-up in the business is you?

  10. Work's eating your home life: late nights, lost weekends, holidays that never happen?

  11. You're the one everyone leans on and asks for favours, with no one to lean on yourself?

  12. You have already forgotten the reason you started this?

What this is actually checking

The questions aren't random. Each one points at a structural weakness that shows up over and over in trade businesses: paying yourself less than a wage, being last in the queue for your own money, no buffer between one bad week and the overdraft, and a business that stops dead the moment you do.

The score matters less than which questions made you pause. One or two yeahs is just what owning a business feels like some weeks. Most of the list lighting up is usually one disease with several symptoms: the business runs on your back, and the work is priced like you're free.

None of it is rare and none of it is permanent. But it doesn't fix itself, and it doesn't fix in one hit either. It fixes in order. Price first, then which jobs you take, then getting the week to run without you in the middle of everything. The other tools put numbers on each step.
